Mailyte vs Mailgun: app email, mailboxes and campaigns in one account

Mailyte sends your app’s email over SMTP and REST, then adds your team’s mailboxes and your campaigns, all in one account on one naira invoice. Mailgun is a transactional email platform with inbound routes, a choice of US or EU region and SDKs for six languages.

The difference

What sets Mailyte apart

Three products, one account

Your team’s mailboxes, your app’s email and your campaigns in one dashboard, on one invoice.

Contacts checked before you email them

Bounce protection asks the recipient’s own mail server whether a mailbox exists, without sending anything. Addresses that do not exist are never emailed.

Campaigns on their own sending path

Marketing mail leaves on a different path from transactional mail, so a newsletter is kept off the sending path that carries your password resets.

Delivery and bounce rates in the Mailyte dashboard

Before the send

We ask before you bounce

Bounce protection asks the recipient’s own mail server whether the mailbox exists, without sending anything. Each new contact comes back Deliverable, Risky or Doesn’t exist, and addresses that don’t exist are never emailed. Paid Marketing plans include checks, and you can buy more.

  • New contacts checked from the dashboard, an import or your app
  • Role addresses, throwaways and full inboxes flagged as Risky
  • Sending pauses itself if bounces spike

Choose Mailgun if

  • You need inbound routes. Mailgun’s plans include them; Mailyte has no routing rules or parse pipeline.
  • You need your data sent through a chosen region. Mailgun offers the US or the EU from one account; Mailyte has no region choice.
  • You want a ready-made SDK for your language. Mailgun lists SDKs for Go, Node.js, PHP, Java, Ruby and Python.
  • You want address validation as a product in its own right. Mailgun sells it as Validate, priced per validation.

Choose Mailyte if

  • You want your team’s mailboxes, your app’s email and your campaigns on one invoice.
  • You want to pay in naira, by card or bank transfer.
  • You want new contacts checked before you email them, not after they bounce.
  • You want the option to run the mail server yourself: its core is open source under the AGPL-3.0.

Frequently asked

Can I switch from Mailgun to Mailyte without changing my code?

Over SMTP, mostly: point your SMTP client at Mailyte’s relay with new credentials. Over the API, the endpoints and payloads differ, so that path is a mapping exercise rather than a one-line change. Mailyte publishes an endpoint-by-endpoint map from Mailgun, and recommends importing your suppression list before your first send.

Does Mailyte have inbound routes like Mailgun?

No. Mailyte has no routing rules and no parse pipeline. It hosts real mailboxes, and an email.inbound webhook fires when mail arrives at one of them, but it will not match a pattern and POST the parsed message to your app. Mailgun’s plans include inbound routes.

Does Mailyte have an EU data region?

No. Mailyte has no region choice at all. Mailgun lets you send through the US or the EU from a single account; Mailyte does not.

Does Mailyte have SDKs like Mailgun’s?

No. Mailyte is one REST API with one key and scopes, plus a drop-in SMTP relay, so any HTTP client is the integration. There are no client libraries. Mailgun lists SDKs for Go, Node.js, PHP, Java, Ruby and Python.

What happens if my bounce rate spikes?

Sending pauses itself. Three bounces in every hundred emails in an hour pauses sending for six hours. A second pause caused by addresses that do not exist, within thirty days, lasts twenty-four hours; a third stops marketing until your list is cleaned. Pauses of app email and mailboxes stay at six hours and never grow.

Can I pay for Mailyte in naira?

Yes. Mailyte is priced in naira, by card or bank transfer, and in dollars if you prefer. Mailgun’s pricing page shows prices in US dollars, euros and pounds.
