Forms

Let people join your list from a page we host, your own website, or your own address.

What this is

A form is a way for people to join your list by themselves: a waitlist before a launch, a newsletter sign-up, a seat at an event. Everyone who joins lands on the list you choose, and your welcome email can go out on its own.

You can put a form in front of people three ways: a link to a page we host, a line of code on your own website, or your own address, like join.yourcompany.com.

How it works

Three starts. A waitlist lets people join at once. A newsletter asks them to confirm their email first, so your list stays real. Event or beta asks for a name and a company, and you choose the rest. You can change any of it later.

Confirming their email. When this is on, nobody joins until they press Yes, add me in the email we send. The button works for 48 hours. Someone who unsubscribed before always has to confirm, whatever the form says. The email comes from a sender you have verified.

What you ask. Email is always asked, and first name if you want it. You can add up to 20 more questions, of ten kinds: short answer, long answer, pick one, pick any, dropdown, number, date, phone number, website link and yes or no. Drag any field by its handle, email and first name too, to change the order people see. Ask only what you will use: every extra question loses a few people.

Where answers go. Every answer is saved on the person's contact, as a custom field named after the question. You can put it in an email and use it to choose who gets a campaign. A "pick any" answer is saved as one line, like "Paying staff, Taking payments".

Protection. By default every address is checked as it comes in: typos, dead domains and throwaway addresses are refused. Strict also refuses shared addresses like info@. A bot check runs on our page and in the iframe.

Your contact limit. A form never loses a signup. If your plan's contact limit is full, the people who sign up wait, and Add them now adds them once there is room.

Watching it work. A form's Overview shows how many joined, the path from visit to confirmed, who just joined and where they came from. People lists every signup. Answers shows what people told you, and Email them starts a campaign to the people who gave one answer.

Set it up

  1. Go to Forms and pick a start.
  2. Write the headline, a line or two under it, and the button.
  3. Choose what you ask. Keep it short.
  4. Choose the list people join. To send a welcome email, make an automation that starts when someone joins that list.
  5. If people should confirm their email first, turn it on and choose who the email comes from.
  6. Add your logo, a cover picture if you like, and your colour.
  7. Press Go live, then share the link, or copy the one line of code onto your website.
  8. Open the link yourself and sign up once, so you see exactly what your visitors see.

When something is wrong

Go live is refused. The form says what is missing, usually the list people join or a verified sender for the confirmation email.

The confirmation email does not arrive. Look in Promotions and Spam. Check the sender is verified. The visitor can press Send it again on the page that says "One more step".

Signups from my own website are refused. If your site posts its own HTML form or code, turn off the bot check under More options: it only works on our page and in the iframe. If you listed Which websites may use it, your site's address must be on that list.

People are waiting to join. Your contact limit is full. Move to a larger plan, or remove contacts you no longer need, then press Add them now.

My own address does not open the form. Check the DNS record. On Cloudflare, set it to DNS only (grey cloud). It can take up to an hour to show.

An answer is missing on a contact. A form only fills a field an existing contact left empty, so nobody can rewrite someone else's details by typing their address. Someone who confirmed their email can set their own answers.
